Settings Reference
All configuration lives under Settings (⚙️). This page lists every tab and what it controls. Tabs are grouped for convenience.
You may not see all of them. A tab belonging to a module you have switched off (or one your plan does not include) is not shown, and neither is a group left with no tabs in it. Switch the module back on and its tabs reappear with your settings exactly as you left them.
General
Identity & brand
Your logo, brand colours, company name, slogan, business phone and business address, plus the email header and footer used on all outgoing messages. Changing brand colours recolours both the admin panel and your emails.
Setting your business address for the first time also creates your first drop-off location from it, so customers coming to you have somewhere to come to. Delete that location if it is wrong and it stays deleted: it is not recreated behind you.
How you operate
On the same tab, and the setting most of DetailByte reads before it decides anything. Five choices:
- Drop-off only: customers always come to you
- Mainly drop-off, but you will travel
- Both equally
- Mainly mobile, but customers can come to you
- Mobile only: you always go to them
It decides what the public booking page asks for. A drop-off job is not asked for a home address, because the customer is driving to you. A mobile job is. Under both, the customer chooses and nothing is preselected.
The setting overrules individual services. Choose mobile only, and services still marked drop-off from before behave as mobile immediately: you do not have to go and edit them all first. Nothing is rewritten, so widening later brings the original settings back.
Moving between mainly drop-off and mainly mobile is the exception: that does update your services to follow the new primary, and tells you how many it changed. Services set to both are never touched.
Tabs that stop making sense go away with it: no Mobile & Travel if you never travel, no Drop-Off if you always do. Your email and SMS templates follow too, so a drop-off-only business is not editing mobile wording that will never send.
This is not part of your plan or your licence. It is a fact about your business, not a feature to buy.
Mobile & Travel
Your shop origin postcode, travel-fee tiers, postcode look-up toggle, automatic drive-time ETA toggle and prep buffer, and whether the travel fee is discountable. See Mobile & Travel. Hidden if you are drop-off only.
Drop-Off
Manage your drop-off locations: the places customers can bring vehicles to, each with address and instructions. If more than one is active, the public booking page asks the customer which one they are coming to. Hidden if you are mobile only.
Calendar
How bookings are shown and organised on the calendar.
Availability
Your working hours and booking availability.
Statuses
The labels used for the booking lifecycle (Draft, Confirmed, In Progress, Completed, Cancelled).
System
Your public site address, the Modules switches below, your current release version and the status of the scheduled background task. Apart from those two settings the tab is read-only: it is there so you can see your instance is healthy.
DetailByte support access
Whether our support team may sign in to your panel to help you. On by default.
When you report a problem, it is often far quicker for us to look at the screen you are describing than to work through it over email. With this switched on, a member of our support team can open your panel, using a separate DetailByte Support account, never your own login, so nothing in your records is ever attributed to you by mistake.
You are told every time, and while it is happening:
- A banner across the top of every screen names who is signed in and the reason they gave.
- It appears in your notifications.
- It is listed permanently under Licence → DetailByte support sign-ins, with the date, the person and the reason.
Every session ends by itself after 30 minutes. You can end one immediately with the button in the banner. The support account does not use one of your admin seats, cannot be assigned jobs, and cannot be signed into with a password by anyone.
Switch this off and nothing we send will be accepted, however the request is made. You can turn it back on at any time: you may want to leave it off and only enable it when you have actually asked for help.
Modules
Switch off the parts of DetailByte your business does not use. If you run no loyalty scheme, there is no reason to have a Loyalty screen, loyalty settings and five loyalty email templates in your way.
Switching a module off is not just cosmetic. It hides the module's screens, its settings tabs and its email templates, and it stops the work behind it: with Loyalty off no points accrue, no milestones are issued and no loyalty emails are sent, including from the overnight scheduled task. With SMS off, nothing texts your customers from any screen or automation.
Automations is the one exception. With it off you cannot build or edit rules, and the sequence stops: the 2-hour reminder, thank you, review request, follow-up and next-service prompt. What keeps running is the correspondence a booking cannot work without: the booking confirmation, the 24-hour reminder, the cancellation notice, and (while your public booking page is switched on) the "we have your request" acknowledgement. Your own new-booking alert is unaffected either way; that comes from Notifications, not from an automation.
Nothing is deleted. Loyalty balances, portal accounts, job packages and your template wording all stay as they are. Switching a module back on resumes exactly where it left off: only what happened while it was off went unrecorded, which is the correct reading of "we were not running that then".
Modules your plan does not include are listed but greyed out, so you can see what an upgrade would add. Those cannot be switched on from here: see Licence in the sidebar.
Communication
Managed and free by default: nothing to enter here. If you'd rather send from your own domain, connect your own SMTP provider and credentials, from name/address, and use the test-email tool. See Communications & Broadcasts.
SMS
Defaults to your own SMS provider and credentials, sender name, and a test-SMS tool. Switch to managed SMS if you'd rather we send on your behalf instead, billed per message.
Notifications & Automations
The home of Templates and Automations, plus which in-app notifications you receive. See Templates & Automations.
Customer Programs
VIP
The rules that automatically promote customers to VIP (spend and/or visit thresholds).
Loyalty
Enable and configure the loyalty programme, rewards, promotions and terms link.
Coupons
Create and manage discount codes.
Job Packages
Package delivery settings: the watermark, per-service documents/letters, and the two numbers that decide how long a delivered gallery lasts. See Job Packages.
- Portal access expires after (days): how long the customer can open their gallery, counted from when you send it. Default 30.
- Then delete the photos after (days): how much longer the image files are kept once the customer can no longer see them. Default 7, maximum 14, and 0 keeps them indefinitely. You are notified the day a gallery expires, naming the date its photos will be removed, so there is time to save a copy.
On the defaults that is 37 days from sending. Only the photographs are deleted: the booking, the invoice and the customer's history are untouched, and job photos are the largest thing on the system, so this is what keeps your plan's storage allowance comfortable.
People
Users
Your own login is the account owner: full access to everything, including Settings and Licence. Add other people as either an administrator or a worker.
An administrator runs day-to-day operations (bookings, customers, worker accounts) but cannot reach Settings, Licence, or another administrator's account; that stays owner-only. A worker sees one screen: My jobs, listing only the bookings assigned to them, without pricing and without access to customer records or settings. Bookings gain an assigned to field so you can decide who sees what.
Switching an account off takes effect on their next click and signs out any device they left logged in. Nothing is deleted and switching it back on restores everything, so it is the right move for a seasonal worker rather than removing them.
The owner's account can never be switched off or have its role changed: it is the one login that can never be locked out, and there is only ever one of it. Administrators manage worker accounts; only the owner can create or manage another administrator account.
How many people you can have signed in at once depends on your plan: the owner and any administrators share one seat allowance, workers have their own. Switched-off accounts do not count.
Your account
Your own login (name, email, password) is managed under My Account in the sidebar, not in Settings.
A note on defaults
Your instance arrives with sensible defaults already loaded (example services, add-ons, message templates and automations) so you have a working system from the first sign-in. Everything is editable; adjust it to fit your business. See First-Run Setup.
